Zach Benson’s 14th goal of the season at 5:16 of the third period broke a 2-2 tie as the Winnipeg ICE edged the Lethbridge Hurricanes 3-2 Wednesday night.

The victory improved Winnipeg’s record to 21-2, capping off a 10 game homestand which saw them go 9-1.

Connor McClennon scored his 17th goal of the season, (9th on the powerplay), and Ty Nash extended his goal scoring streak to four games with his 10th of the year.

Daniel Hauser made 19 saves improving his personal record to 15-0 this season.

Jett Jones and Miguel Marques replied for Lethbridge (12-10-0-1). Goaltender Bryan Thompson suffered the loss.

The ICE went 1/3 on the power play while the Hurricanes did not have an opportunity on the man advantage.

The ICE wore a specialty SpongeBob Square Pants jersey during the game as RE/MAX presented Nickelodeon Night for The Children’s Miracle Network. They will be auctioned at a later date, with proceeds in support of Children’s Miracle Network.

The Children’s Miracle Network strives to fund critical treatments and healthcare services, pediatric medical equipment, and research. Its various fundraising partners and programs support the mission to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible.

Winnipeg is back in action Friday in Saskatoon when they put their 12-1 road record on the line in their first meeting of the season against the Blades (6:30 pregame show on CFRW 1290 AM / 7:00 face off on WHL Live via CHL TV).
